Summer Golf 2025
The Crofton Country Club in Crofton, MD, hosted this year’s 8th Annual American Legion Post 276 Golf Invitation on Monday, May 12, where 64 dedicated golfers enjoyed a picture-perfect day filled with sunshine, birdies, and eagles on the links. Sixteen teams competed this year, and the competition was intense at the top, with two teams battling it out to the finish line for the coveted first-place prize. The winning team finished at -13 under par, recording back-to-back eagles on the first two holes played (holes 6 and 7). That team consisted of Phil Coleman, Steve Harmell, and brothers Mike and Fill Buriss. The second-place team came in one stroke off the lead at -12 under par and included Mike Gentry, Peyton Herbert, Bill Hyre, and Levin Matthews. Congratulations, gentlemen! There was a two-way tie for third place at eight under par.
After the golf round, lunch was served, and post-game prizes and awards were presented. It was noted that area merchants were once again very generous this year, donating over 30 prizes valued at more than $2,800. The prizes included a pair of golf bags, a travel golf bag, an authenticated signed Baltimore Ravens football, and various restaurant gift cards.
Mike Krieger led the effort in organizing this annual golf event, with his wife, Peggy, assisting by putting together excellent gift bags and arranging the prizes. Mike’s sister, Pam Frischkorn, volunteered to help with registration check-in during the morning, take pictures during the event, and set up the post-lunch awards table. Thank you, ladies! Speaking of the registration table, our golfers were extremely generous this year, as we had a record intake of over $1,700 for mulligans, raffle prizes, and 50/50 chances.
Over the past few months, Mike has visited local businesses to solicit donations and sponsorships that offset some costs and add additional prizes. Having just received a final invoice from the golf club, I anticipate that we will clear just over $2,200, which will be donated to the American Legion Post 276 & the First Tee, an organization that impacts the lives of young people by providing educational programs that build character, instill life-enhancing values, and promote healthy choices through the game of golf – URL link below.
